Best portable fans in Singapore

We all know how hot the weather’s been lately here. While there are plenty of indoor activities and cold places to hide from the heat, it’s just impossible to escape from the sun 24/7. So, we’ve done y’all a public service and collated a list of the best portable fans in Singapore, for when you have no choice but to brave the heatwave.

What you need to know before purchasing portable fans

Portable fans are nothing new, though there are many different versions out there. There are regular handheld fans, USB fans, portable stroller fans and now neck fans emerging. Most fans are charged with a USB-C charger, though some stick to the old micro-USB.

The average battery life of a portable fan is around 7-8 hours. However, that depends on how long and how intensely you’re using it, as well as the battery capacity. So, don’t expect a fan with a tiny capacity of 800mAH at full pelt to last you through those long adventurous hiking trails. It takes a couple of hours to fully charge a fan on average.

Price breakdown of fans, along with their best feature

This will list all the fans, what type of fan they are, as well as their prices and best features:

Fan name Type Price Best feature

Fuggler x SpongeBob SquarePants keyring at 7-Eleven

If there’s something Singaporeans are known for, it’s getting our hands on every latest trendy collectible – from Labubus to Kodak Charmeras, and now, it’s the Fuggler x SpongeBob SquarePants keyring collection.

We don’t know why we love all things ugly, but this collection is now here at selected 7-Eleven stores in Singapore to satisfy our urge to have yet another ugly-cute thing dangle on our bags.

What are Fugglers?

According to the internet, Fugglers were first created when a British woman found false teeth on eBay and began sewing them on teddy bears. These “funny-ugly” monsters quickly gained popularity and have now been launched as an official brand and sold in retail stores.

Fugglers

The Fugglers typically have realistic human-like teeth, glassy vacant stares, and their signature “butt-on” hole: a button fixed onto their backsides. These “butt-on” holes might even emit foul odours, and the colour of the buttons could indicate their rarity.

They also have quirky names like Rabid Rabbit, Gaptooth McGoo, Annoyed Alien, and Sir Belch. You can already tell from the names that they are not just any cute “sunshine and rainbows” type plushie, but are designed to look like a chaotic, stinky mess.

Like most plush and figurine collectibles, the Fuggler also come in variations, such as the Big Fugg, Baby Fugg, Window Clingers, and Keyrings. They also have many collaboration series, such as the Lord of the Rings x Fuggler series, the DC Comics x Fuggler series, and now, what we are here for, the Fuggler x SpongeBob SquarePants keyring collection.

What’s in the Fuggler x SpongeBob SquarePants keyring collection?

7-Eleven Singapore via Facebook

The Fuggler x SpongeBob SquarePants keyring collection comes in 5 hideous designs.

Grab the SpongeBob Fuggler before it runs out – with its human-like teeth, wide smile, printed pants, yellow spots, and yellow fuzzy fur, this might just be the most popular design. Or snatch up its best friend, the Patrick Fuggler, featuring long, pink, “tornado” fur, a noticeably wide tooth gap, and a deep brownish-red belly “butt-on”. Don’t miss out on the Gary Fuggler, Plankton Fuggler, and Squidward Fuggler with their 4 realistic plastic teeth, slitted eyes, and fabric skin.

Look out for the rare blue “butt-on” hole under your Fuggler’s pants. This means you have gotten a “catch me”, a chase Fuggler.

All the keyring Fugglers come with “o” ring spring clasps, so you can make them your next bag charms. Each Fuggler is around 12.7cm tall from the “o” ring to the toe.

Where can you find the Fuggler x SpongeBob SquarePants keyring collection?

These official Fugglers are yours to take home for $15.90 each, available at selected 7-Eleven stores throughout Singapore. Check out the full list of 7-Eleven locations.

Alternatively, purchase the SpongeBob Fuggler series online, on sites like the Kinokuniya online store ($15.90) and Amazon Singapore (from $32.28). Beware of fakes – look out for prices that are too good to be true, or just get yours from 7-Eleven to avoid the hassle.

Grab your SpongeBob Fuggler before they run out

We’re loving how cute these chaotic Fugglers from Bikini Bottom are, so much so that we can’t help but want to get one for ourselves. But that also means: so will everyone else. So quickly head down to 7-Eleven and get your hands on one while stocks last.

Starbucks Bearista Glass Cold Cup in Singapore

Starbucks merch has a way of making you question your life choices, like whether you really need another cup. But once it’s cute enough, logic flies straight out the window, and honestly, we’re just as guilty. So when we found out that the viral Starbucks Bearista Glass Cold Cup – the same one you’ve probably seen all over social media and that sold out in the US – is finally coming to Singapore, we couldn’t help but get excited.

And the good news is, the Bearista Glass will be back in selected stores islandwide on 4th March, if you want to save yourself the inevitable regret later.

Enjoy your coffee with a side of cuteness

First released in the US, the Starbucks Bearista Glass Cold Cup quickly went viral for obvious reasons. Its bear-shaped glass body features the iconic Bearista rocking a beanie in the brand’s signature green, and it’s even clutching a tiny Starbucks cup in its hands. Excuse us while we squeal – we’re trying to keep it together, but it’s not easy.

And because it’s glass, it’s reusable, so you can have your morning cuppa every day with a side of cuteness. The look of it also adapts according to your drink choice because the cup is transparent.

How much does it cost?

Each cup will set you back $35.90 – it doesn’t sound too bad when you factor in the adorable design and the fact that it’s actually functional, not just something you’ll admire on your shelf.

Where can you buy the Bearista Glass Cold Cup?

Following the initial pre-order in December 2025, the fan-favourite Bearista cup is back in-store from 4th March 2026 at 31 selected Starbucks outlets across Singapore, while stocks last.

Region Selected Starbucks Outlets
Central Bugis Junction, Concourse, Frasers Tower, Great World City, Ion Orchard, Marina Bay Link, Metropolis, One Holland Village, Orchard Cineleisure, Plaza Singapura, Singapore Land Towers, United Square, VivoCity
North Northpoint, Woodlands Civic, Yew Tee Point
North-East Ang Mo Kio Hub, Compass One, NEX, Toa Payoh Hub, Waterway Point, Woodleigh Mall
East Bedok Mall, Century Square, Jewel Changi Airport, White Sands
West Clementi Mall, Hillion Mall, Jurong Point, NUS Town, Westgate

You’re limited to 2 pieces per transaction, perfect for keeping 1 for yourself and gifting the other to friends or family. As for scalpers hoping to make a quick buck… don’t. We see you.

There’s also no fixed end date for the sale, but it’s likely to be snapped up quickly.

Are the Bearista cups available in-store or online?

During the initial launch of these Bearista cups, customers had to wait 2 months for the pre-orders to be fulfilled. This time around, they will be available to purchase in-store, so you don’t have to yearn for a sip from this cutie.

However, there are only a limited number of Bearista cups available in the stores listed above, and they will be on the Starbucks shelves during opening hours. The outlets that open the earliest at 7am are the ones at Marina Bay Link Mall, Singapore Land Tower, The Metropolis, and Frasers Tower. However, Jurong Point’s Starbucks is open 24/7, so who knows when the Bearista cups will be stocked there?

More cute Starbucks merchandise to cop

While you wait (im)patiently for the Starbucks Bearista Glass Cold Cup to be released, get your merch fix with Starbucks’ Nap Under The Willow spring collection. Inspired by the sakura season, shop a range of pastel and adorable corgi-themed items like mugs, cold cups, and stainless steel tumblers.

Prices for the collection start from $29.90, but some items are already sold out, so don’t wait too long.

Get your hands on Starbucks’ cutest merch yet

Given how quickly the initial pre-order sold out, you might want to head down sooner rather than later to queue at a physical store to snag the Starbucks Bearista Glass Cold Cup. All that’s left to do is set a reminder and an alarm, just in case your memory fails you.

9 Places To Buy Affordable Vintage Digital Cameras & Reusable Film Cameras Below $100 https://thesmartlocal.com/read/film-digital-cameras-singapore/ Fri, 20 Feb 2026 08:34:40 +0000 https://thesmartlocal.com/?p=339687 Shoot your next shot with these affordable camera shops.

The post 9 Places To Buy Affordable Vintage Digital Cameras & Reusable Film Cameras Below $100 appeared first on TheSmartLocal - Singapore's Leading Travel and Lifestyle Portal.

Where to buy digital cameras & film cameras in Singapore

While many of us appreciate the art of film photography, we have to admit the prices we pay to maintain this hobby are getting more expensive. From the high costs of scanning our negatives to restocking our monthly film rolls, it only makes sense to find ways to save money on film photography.

Instead of spending an exorbitant amount on a vintage film camera, consider using digital and reusable film cameras instead. They are ideal for a budget, and produce equally satisfying photos. Here is a list of places you can buy affordable digital cameras and reusable cameras.

What’s the difference between digital cameras and film cameras?

Before deciding on which camera fits you best, you first need to know the difference between digital and film cameras. Digital cameras don’t require the use of film, and the photos can instantly be transferred to a memory card. The quality of the photos will still give you that vintage look, but they are less grainy and lack the warm tones film photos have.

Regarding film cameras, the pictures you take will be manually captured on a film roll, which you have to develop to produce the pictures. The process is more tedious than digital cameras, but some of us would find the process and quality of the photos more rewarding.

The more affordable option for film cameras would be reusable film cameras. While these cameras are made of plastic, they last longer than disposable ones which come preloaded with film, but can only be used once. The quality of the photos is comparable to those really expensive cameras too.

How to choose the right digital camera or reusable film camera

If you are a beginner with no experience, we recommend you get digital cameras like the Casio Exilim EX-Z77 or the Nikon Coolpix L25, as they are compact and easy to use. Most of these vintage digital cameras have less than 10 megapixels, giving that nostalgic Y2K look.

If you are someone who enjoys the process of producing film photos or simply prefer your photos to be grainy, we suggest you start off with the Kodak Ektar H35 or the Ilford Sprite 35-II. These cameras will give you traditional 35mm-framed photos, and are simple point-and-shoots. You can read more about how to get your first film camera.

How to avoid getting scammed

As a word of advice, we recommend going down physically to a shop as you can test the camera before buying it. Remember to do quality checks such as ensuring the shutter is working, film can be loaded, and that the viewfinders are not cracked.

For online purchases, check that the website you’re browsing is trustworthy and read reviews from buyers on apps like Carousell as those will give you a good gauge of the cameras sold.

Unique blind boxes in Singapore

The blind box craze is probably here to stay, especially with the numerous new options available at POP MART and ActionCity. Maybe it’s the thrill of ripping open the packaging, that element of mystery and surprise, or the drive to collect that makes people keep coming back for more.

And while most stick to cute characters and figurines, some venture out of familiar territory, like these unique blind boxes:

1. Kurex condom

With that many options, it could be easier to leave it to luck, and you might just get something you’d never have picked for yourself. It’s available at the Ikuiku Love Hotel exhibition running from now till 15th March 2026, with free entry.

Other than the 6 normal designs, there’s a general hidden design of Buddha with a cat in his lap, and a super hidden design of Buddha with a face mask on. It costs $15.90 per box or $95.40 for a case of 6.

The plush measures 15cm in height, making it great as a bag charm or for displaying on your desk as lovely little reminders of faith.

It costs $19.90 for a box and $238 for the full set of 12.

Do note that some earlier versions have print errors on the outer box, which incorrectly show The Fire Hydrant Tank Machine as the hidden version. Rest assured, it comes with a sticker replacement, or you could get a free box replacement.

They come in 4 different designs: yellow left arrow, blue left arrow, green right arrow, and blue forward arrow. A battery is included, and it is replaceable once it has run out. There’s also a new version available for the same price – these ones come in pastel, macaron-inspired colours.

It’s a win-win for both parties – businesses can clear unsold food while customers can look forward to a surprise snack at affordable prices.

The tiles and the case they come with flaunt the geometric patterns WALALA is known for, and the blue, white, and red of the set is probably a nod to the brand’s and artist’s French roots.

Get the 1664 x WALALA Limited Edition Mahjong Set.

What’s the normal size of a mahjong table?

Mahjong tables come in a variety of sizes, but the most common mahjong table size is 90cm x 90cm. There are also smaller tables at 80cm x 80cm if space is a constraint at home. Automatic mahjong tables, on the other hand, are bigger thanks to all the machinations built inside them. They usually come at about 95cm x 95cm.

Are automatic mahjong tables worth it?

There’s no beating the feeling of “dry swimming” with your friends, but the convenience of an automatic mahjong table will make your games go by faster and quieter; you don’t want to be waking your neighbours up with your tile shuffling if your mahjong sessions run late.

The caveat is the hefty price tag of an automatic mahjong table. Even refurbished sets from The Men’s Cave will run you about $488, although it comes with 2 sets of magnetic tiles and other accessories. So whether or not an automatic mahjong table is worth it comes down to how much you’re willing to invest in one.

If you’re only a casual mahjong host, maybe start out with a traditional folding mahjong table first. Once you’ve established a regular mahjong group and are starting to host more regular games, perhaps buying a secondhand mahjong table might be worth your penny. Just make sure to win more rounds to recoup your investment!

How many pieces are there in a set of mahjong tiles?

A standard set of mahjong tiles in Singapore mahjong has 148 tiles, comprised of:

  • 136 standard tiles, comprising 4 copies of the following:
    • Circle suit (1-9)
    • Bamboo suit (1-9)
    • Character suit (1-9)
    • Wind tiles (North, South, East, West)
    • Dragon tiles (White board, Fortune, Centre)
  • 4 animal tiles (Cat, Mouse, Rooster, Centipede)
  • 8 flower tiles (2 sets of 4 unique tiles numbered 1-4)

Some mahjong tile sets also come with Fei, or joker tiles, and 2-4 dice.

What size are mahjong tiles?

There are a few sizes for mahjong tiles, and it’s imperative that you choose the right one to buy. Otherwise, you’d end up with mahjong tiles that are a bit too small and feel clunky; you don’t want to flop when you build your walls and embarrass yourself!

Mahjong tiles come in these sizes (height x length x width)

  • Large: 39mm x 30mm x 23mm
  • A1: 37mm x 28mm x 22mm
  • A2: 35mm x 26mm x 20mm
  • A3: 31mm x 23mm x 19mm
  • Mini: 20mm x 14mm x 11mm

A1 is the size you’d wanna go with. Having played with both A1 and A2 sizes, the 2mm difference can be felt. But if you and your mahjong squad have daintier hands, A2 and A3 mahjong tiles might be more preferable.

Abalone plushie keychains by FairPrice & Play Nation

What do you get when you combine the thrill of blind boxes, the cuteness of lil food-themed plushies, and the whimsical immersion of New York’s Jellycat Diner experience? The Abalone Market Plush Experience at AMK Hub’s FairPrice Xtra, happening from now till 18th February 2026, 11am-7pm daily.

This pop-up is a joint project between FairPrice and Play Nation, which you may recognise as the gaming cafe in Dhoby Ghaut, but is also a wider “play brand” creating their own toys and games. Here are the fun CNY-themed activities and blind boxes available at the Abalone Market as well as other FairPrice outlets nationwide, just in time for the festive season:

“Can” your own abalone plushie in this Jellycat Diner-style experience

FairPrice Abalone Plushies Seafood Display

You know those seafood displays you see at supermarkets? That’s how these adorable abalone plushie keychains – AKA Abalone Darlings – are displayed. They’re 100% originally designed by Play Nation BTW, and available exclusively at FairPrice. Choose between 6 uber cute designs, each symbolising very auspicious wishes for the year ahead:

FairPrice Abalone Plushies Blind Box

Left to right:

  • Poppy: Holding a love heart, symbolising romance and blissful ties
  • Candy: Holding a peach bun, symbolising longevity
  • Harmony: Holding an orange, symbolising unity and togetherness
  • Bubbles: Holding a gold ingot, symbolising prosperity and success
  • Fortuna: Holding a mahjong tile, symbolising good fortune
  • Joy: Holding a broccoli, symbolising wealth and abundance

FairPrice Abalone Plushies Designs

You’ll want to collect multiple, if not the whole set, because their hands actually come with snap buttons that you can clasp together to make them “hold hands”. Awww! Imagine a whole row of them lined up Kumbaya style – definitely a statement decor piece in your home or on your dashboard.

FairPrice Xtra Abalone Plushies AMK Hub

To kickstart the Jellycat Diner-style experience, pick up the card corresponding to the abalone design you want. Then, make payment as you would for a regular supermarket purchase. Each Abalone Darling is priced at $18.80.

FairPrice Abalone Plushies Experience

With your card paid for, head back to the pop-up “abalone market” and hand it to the friendly “chef” on duty. He’ll scrape off the bad luck of the previous years from your new abalone pal, and give it a good cleaning so you can start 2026 afresh, with more huat than ever before.

The activity is not only immersive, but interactive, as you are invited to clean the abalone yourself too – all while expressing your own wishes for the year ahead. Thereafter, the chef will submerge your abalone into a pot of imaginary soup, and proclaim that upon cooking, all your wishes and blessings for the Year of the Horse will come true. Period!

FairPrice Abalone Plushies Canning

Now all that’s left to do is to keep your good luck freshly sealed in till you’re ready to pop the can open. An actual canning machine applies the lids on the very authentic-looking abalone cans, and you now have the cutest little abalone to unbox when you get home. Not gonna lie, tearing open the can makes for a pretty dang fun make-believe activity for young and old.

FairPrice Abalone Plushies Stickers Apron

You’ll also get a sticker sheet to personalise your can with. Shoppers who buy all 6 designs will score a free abalone apron. All the better for you to recreate your own abalone chef moments at home!

Where to get FairPrice x Play Nation abalone plushie keychains

For the immersive Abalone Market experience, you’ll have to head to FairPrice Xtra at AMK Hub for the exclusive pop-up.

FairPrice Abalone Plushies Holding Hands

Those who want to score the abalone plushie keychains without having to go through the “cooking” experience can buy them ala carte, blind box-style. Or should we say, blind can. So if you’re keen on getting a specific design or wish to collect the entire set of 6 designs, going the Abalone Market route will guarantee your haul.

You can buy the Abalone Darlings blind boxes at Xtra Play Market locations islandwide. These are dedicated Play Nation zones at selected FairPrice Xtra outlets, namely VivoCity, JEM, Jurong Point, and NEX.

CNY-themed plushies & blind boxes by Play Nation

If these abalone plushies have whetted your appetite for more cuddly companions, Play Nation has a bunch of other festive offerings to collect.

FairPrice Play Nation CNY Plushies

The Huat Ah! plush keyrings ($14.90) come in 8 designs centred around fortune and prosperity; think God of Wealth, Fortune Kitty, and a pillow $50 note. Definitely an auspicious companion to hang on your bag. Meanwhile, the Fortune Nibbles ($15.90) series houses your fave CNY goodies in cute zip pouch “snack jars”. You can also use the pouches to store coins and small essentials like your earpiece and keys – we love a multifunctional collectible!

Unlike the Abalone Darlings series, you can find Huat Ah! and Fortune Nibbles blind boxes at all FairPrice, FairPrice Finest, FairPrice Xtra, FairPrice Express, and even Cheers outlets in Singapore.

Stock up on a bunch of blind boxes for the bai nian gang to open amidst all the snacking and mahjong sessions. The plushies make for memorable keepsakes to have by your side for the year ahead. And if you’re looking for a fun activity that will also bless you with well wishes for 2026, make sure to swing by the Abalone Market.
