Dollop Pit Stop photobooth at *SCAPE

Photobooths and studios in Singapore are a dime a dozen, but this one’s a little special. Dollop Pit Stop at *SCAPE in Orchard is SG’s first automobile-themed photobooth that gives the usual snap-and-go concept an upgrade. If that already sounds interesting to you, read on to find out more about what’s in store.

What is Dollop Pit Stop?

Dollop Pit Stop is a photobooth experience created by Dollop Photobooth and dedicated to all things automobile.

When you step inside, you’ll be greeted with visuals that reference pit stops, petrol stations, and showrooms, all reimagined in a fun and highly stylised way. Each booth is designed to make you feel like you have stepped into a different scene, rather than just standing in front of a backdrop.

What to expect at Dollop Pit Stop?

You’ll get to choose from 4 photobooths – it doesn’t sound like a lot, but the decor and props are more than enough to help you switch up your poses, so you never end up with identical photos. Plus, some booths offer unique print designs you won’t find anywhere else.

1. The Glambot Ride

Dollop Pit Stop photobooth at *SCAPE - glambot rideImage credit: @lovettieee & @ferrerochei via Instagram

Live out your celebrity moment in The Glambot Ride, but instead of the red carpet, you’ll get to crush it in a car. You can even peek out the sunroof for a quirky pose with your friends.

Dollop Pit Stop photobooth at *SCAPE - DIY drivers license keychain Image credit: Dollop Pit Stop

At the end of the session, you’ll get your photos printed on metallic photostrips that you can either take home or cut out for your own DIY driver’s license keychain. Simply approach a staff member for assistance so you can get your hands on the accessories.

FYI, a glambot is a robotic camera system that moves quickly while capturing your photos in slow-mo. So to prevent unnecessary unglams in your photos, prepare your pose beforehand because the camera will be moving at lightning speed.

2. Mini-Mart Booth

Dollop Pit Stop photobooth at *SCAPE - mini mart

If you’ve ever felt too paiseh snapping cute photos at an actual convenience store, the Mini-Mart Booth lets you do so in peace. This colourful setup makes it easy to strike playful poses, especially with friends.

Even better, there’s a whole stash of props to choose from, like snacks, vegetables and mini shopping carts. You can also select photostrip designs inspired by food packaging, which ties in perfectly with the convenience store theme.

3. Neon Petrol Station

This retro-futuristic Neon Petrol Station could make you look like an F1 driver with the right fits. The lights above the photobooth are colour-changing, so every shot looks like a different vibe.

You get props like traffic cones and mini cars to pose with, and your photos come in transparent photostrips inspired by the Hot Wheels packaging design and Grand Theft Auto loading screens.

4. The Showroom

For all creators out there, The Showroom photobooth is for you – its simple yet interchangeable backdrops let you snap photos for any occasion.

Pro tip: Flash your *SCAPE-exclusive photostrips from this particular photobooth at participating *SCAPE stores to redeem discounts and perks.

Drop by Dollop Pit Stop with your friends

Each session is priced at $10 for 2 photostrips or 1 large 4R print. It’s also worth noting that Dollop Pit Stop is a permanent photobooth, so you don’t have to rush to catch it before it disappears.

Solace Studios at The Cathay

Self-photo studios have been all the rage in Korea thanks to Insaeng-ne-cut, also known as Life4Cuts, the OG photobooth brand that had youths hooked.

Closer to home, most of us think of Solace Studios, known for its creative themes and affordable prices. They’ve just opened a new outlet at The Cathay, dedicated entirely to vintage-style photobooth themes, and offering unique keepsakes beyond the usual photo strips.

What is Solace Studios?

Solace Studios at The Cathay - solace studiosImage credit: Solace Studios

Solace Studios is an affordable self-photo booth brand founded in Singapore in 2022, with prices starting from just $10 for a standard session. Their booth concepts take inspiration from the trendy styles you’d usually see in Korea, so there’s no need to hop on a plane for a Seoul-style photo spot.

And if you’ve ever wandered through Haji Lane, you’ve probably spotted their largest and most popular outlet. It spreads across 2 levels and features a range of themes, including a laundromat-inspired one.

Now, with their newest and 20th outlet at The Cathay, you can dive into vintage-style booths, with nostalgic vibes and themed props for photo strips you’ll actually want to keep.

What to expect at Solace Studios’ newest outlet?

9 vintage photobooth themes to choose from

1. Flipbook Room

This unique Flipbook Room photobooth lets you capture your photos in motion, creating a mini flipbook – your very own real-life stop-motion keepsake.

2. Newspaper Booth

If you’ve ever been curious about what you’d look like in a 90s newspaper, this Newspaper Booth is your best bet.

There are 4 design layouts to choose from, but the biggest difference lies in the headlines: “Hot Girl Summer”, “Missing”, “Solace Studios at The Cathay,” and “Love Is In The Frame” are just some examples. The last one encapsulates you in an adorable heart-shaped design in the middle of the page.

3. Solace Express Luxury Train

Hop on the Solace Express Luxury Train with your friends and experience what it feels like travelling together on a seemingly moving vintage train – major vibes in this one because of how realistic it is.

4. Vintage Lift

The only time you might actually be okay with being stuck in a lift is in this Vintage Lift booth.

8. Dark Room

The Dark Room photobooth takes the cake for giving you the most aura points. Its black-and-white theme gives your shots a moody, old-school charm, almost like you’ve stepped out of a 1920s film reel. Grab a flat cap from the Props Area to complete the look.

9. Wood Room

Finally, if you prefer something simple, there’s the Wood Room, featuring a walnut wood backdrop – minimalist enough so you’re the centre of attention.

Vanity & Props Area for quick photoshoot prep

Don’t forget to touch up your makeup or hair at the Vanity Area that’s equipped with atas Dyson hair straighteners, curlers, and dryers. There’s also a full-length mirror for those last-minute fit checks.

And to spice up your photo-taking sessions, there are multiple props for you to choose from at the Props Area, from vintage cameras to classic accessories like flat caps.

iWan Idol Experiential Selfie Studio’s K-pop idol makeover

These days, everyone has a camera in their pocket, but nothing quite beats the fun of stepping into a photo studio. Fun props, silly faces, and themed rooms make you feel like you’re in your own MV. And if you’ve ever secretly wished you were a K-pop idol, the iWan Idol Experiential Selfie Studio in Singapore is your shot at living the dream – at least for a day.

What is iWan Idol Experiential Selfie Studio?

The iWan Idol Experiential Selfie Studio is pretty much every K-pop fan’s fever dream come true. It’s Singapore’s latest and largest K-pop-themed selfie studio, where many realistic photo spots are available.

Across 10 curated K-idol sets, you’ll find yourself “hosting” fan meets or posing with setups inspired by variety shows – just like the idols do when the cameras are rolling.

Are there professional photography services?

Yes, a photographer-for-hire is available at $150 to $200 per hour. Take note that you’ll have to contact the studio in advance to check the photographer’s availability.

But the whole concept is DIY, so you’re encouraged to snap your own photos, or bring someone along to play cameraman for the day.

What to expect during the K-pop idol experience & at the photo studio

Photo zones, including backstage setup & fan meet booth

themed zonesImage adapted from: @iwan.idolroom via Instagram

The selfie studio has a range of themed sets with all the props you’ll need to recreate classic K-pop idol moments, such as posing backstage before a “concert” or pulling your best aegyo for the camera at a fan sign booth.

One set that deserves a special shoutout is their classroom setup, inspired by popular K-variety show Knowing Bros. Come prepared with your best K-pop choreo and strut it out on an iconic variety show set.

Glamorous K-pop idol outfits for rent

stage outfit and performance
Image adapted from: @iwan.idolroom via Instagram

It wouldn’t be a full K-pop experience without pretty outfits. At the iWan Idol Experiential Selfie Studio, you can rent a range of stage-ready outfits ($49/set) – sizes generally run from S to L, though they may differ depending on the piece.

You’re also welcome to come in your own outfit and make-up. After all, nothing screams idol energy more than rocking a style that feels 100% you.

Professional K-pop idol makeovers

Speaking of make-up, if you need a helping hand to achieve that doll-like K-pop idol look, there’s also a professional make-up service ($150/session) you can add on to your booking. By the time you step out of the dressing room, you’ll be ready to conquer any stage or red carpet.

Just note that you’ll need to arrive 1.5 hours before your booking for the glam session. A bit of waiting never hurt – it’ll all pay off when you’re absolutely eating up your shots later.

K-pop-inspired merchandise, including photocards & ID cards

At the end of your experience, you’ll also get to bring home an additional memento. For an additional $5.90, you can turn your snaps into classic K-pop merchandise, including photocards, ID cards, and photo strips.

Take note that printing of photos should be completed within the allotted time, so plan your time wisely unless you want to miss out on bringing home these keepsakes.

What are the different packages available?

pink backdrop
Image adapted from: @iwan.idolroom via Instagram

The selfie studio runs 3 daily sessions – 10.30am to 1.30pm, 2.15pm to 5.15pm, and 6pm to 9pm. Just a heads up that punctuality is key here. If you’re late, it’ll eat into your session time, and overtime incurs additional charges. Best to plan ahead so you can maximise the full idol experience.

Here’s a quick overview of the packages available:

Package Price
No-Frills Hourly Entrance Fee $49 per hour
Package #1: No-Frill Full Session $68 for 3 hours
Package #2: Full Session + 1 Outfit $88 for 3 hours
Package #3: Full Session + 2 Outfits $118 for 3 hours
Package #4: Full Session + 2 Outfits + 1 Makeup $238 for 3 hours

P.S. Package #4 is only available for Sessions 2 and 3 in the afternoon. Other add-ons include bringing along a companion ($49/3 hours).

You may bring up to 2 other people along, be it as your entourage or fellow members of your girl group. If you wish to book for a group of more than 3, make a request by contacting the studio.

At the time of writing, iWan Idol Experiential Selfie Studio is also running an opening promo at just $29 for the first hour, and that already includes 1 idol outfit rental. It’s limited to the first 100 bookings only – hurry up and book a slot to make your debut.

Turn your K-pop idol dreams into reality at iWan Idol Experiential Selfie Studio

This is the chance for hardcore K-pop fans to live like an idol for a day. Best of all, it’s all the glam without the insane training, so it’s a win-win.

Book a session at iWan Idol Experiential Selfie Studio

Address: Excalibur Centre, 71 Ubi Crescent, #05-02, Singapore 408571
Opening hours: 10.30am to 1.30pm, 2.15pm to 5.15pm & 6pm to 9pm, Daily

Places in Singapore that don’t look like Singapore

We all know Singapore has a reputation for being a concrete jungle filled with HDB blocks and skyscrapers, so stumbling upon a place that looks straight out of Europe can feel a little sus. But they do exist, and no, you don’t need to hop on a plane to get there. We’ve curated a list of places in Singapore that look like overseas or fictional destinations – perfect if you’re looking for an IG-worthy spot, or just want to pretend you’re on a holiday without having to use up your annual leave.

1. Sang Nila Utama Garden

Split gates that’ll remind you of Bali

Sang Nila Utama Garden split gates

Sang Nila Utama is the OG founder of Singapore, long before Sir Stamford Raffles came into the picture. You’d know this if you actually paid attention during History class. But what most people don’t know is that there’s a whole garden dedicated to him in Fort Canning Park.

The Sang Nila Utama Garden is a throwback to what palace gardens in ancient Southeast Asia used to look like. Its main draw is the Javanese-style split gates that remind us of the Gates of Heaven outside Lempuyang Temple in Bali.

As you walk around the garden, you’ll spot statues of ducks and frogs, and symmetrical landscaping reminiscent of the palace grounds back then. Visit for a quiet stroll when you need to escape the city’s chaos for a bit.

2. Dalvey Hill

Majestic mansion & rolling hills as your backdrop

Arwaa Mansion

If you’ve ever seen a wedding shoot that made you go “wah, so atas,” chances are it was taken with Arwaa Mansion in the background. This massive estate along Nassim Road is owned by Prince Jefri Bolkiah, the younger brother of the Sultan of Brunei, and sits right in the middle of one of Singapore’s swankiest neighbourhoods.

Dalvey Hill

You won’t be able to step foot inside, of course, but just head over to Dalvey Hill for the next best thing. It has gentle rolling slopes and a clear view of the mansion from afar – a great photo spot for you to act like you’ve flown to Rome.

Dalvey Hill

3. Claudine Restaurant

French restaurant housed in a transformed colonial chapel

Claudine RestaurantImage credit: Claudine Restaurant

Dempsey Hill is already known for its luxurious vibes and colonial-era charm, but Claudine Restaurant stands out, mostly because it’s housed in what used to be a literal chapel. You can now tuck into steak frites and sip on wine where people once got married or said their prayers.

They’ve kept the original stained glass windows, so the place still has that old-school charm. Look closely and you’ll also spot glass panels made with pressed wild grasses.

Claudine Restaurant outdoor areaImage adapted from: @claudinerestaurant via Instagram

Come here for a fancier-than-usual dinner date, or if you’re in the area pretending to be a Dempsey regular. There’s also an outdoor area that’ll bring you to the streets of France, minus the long-haul flight and jet lag.

4. Canterbury Road

Cameron Highlands in Singapore

Canterbury Road

There are several ways to get to Cameron Highlands, but the good news is that you won’t have to brave hours of travel because there’s Canterbury Road. It’s known as the Cameron Highlands of Singapore, thanks to the hill that overlooks the view. We recommend visiting during sunset to enjoy a romantic picnic with bae.

Canterbury Road colonial buildings

Along the way up, look out for colonial black and white bungalows that’ll make gorgeous photo ops as well. But take note that these are residential spaces, so keep your volume down and be respectful when trying to snap pics.

Canterbury Road

5. Lakeside Garden

Grasslands reminiscent of Jeju in autumn

Lakeside Garden Grasslands

Lakeside Garden in Jurong Lake Gardens has the Grasslands, a gently sloping area covered in lalang and tall tufts of grass that looks like it came straight out of a K-drama scene. Head down and you’ll feel like you’ve almost been teleported to Jeju in autumn, when the island transforms into a sea of silver grass.

Lakeside Garden The Lone Tree

There’s also The Lone Tree, a sculpture made from recycled iron parts that stands out like an art piece in the wild. If you ask us, it’s pretty ideal for those moody, “lost in thought” shots that defo don’t look like you’re in SG.

Lakeside Garden

6. Yunnan Garden

Traditional Chinese architecture often seen in China

Yunnan Garden

Hidden away in the NTU campus is Yunnan Garden, which honestly looks like it belongs in a Chinese period drama, not a local uni. Originally built in the 1950s and refreshed in 2020, the place is now a peaceful retreat with elements of a traditional Chinese garden.

Yunnan Garden waterfall

There’s a 5.6m-tall waterfall and a classic Chinese pavilion where you can take cover from the sun, or just sit there as if you’re some Tang dynasty royalty waiting for your tea to be served.

Yunnan Garden pavilion

It’s totally possible to snap photos here and make your friends do a double-take, wondering if you’ve somehow jetted off to China.

Yunnan Garden

7. Keyaki

Transports you to Japan instantly

KeyakiImage credit: Quandoo

Take the lift up to the 4th floor of Pan Pacific Singapore, and you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to Japan. Keyaki is surrounded by a 1,118sqm Japanese garden, complete with a koi pond and perfectly manicured greenery that’ll make you forget you’re in the middle of town.

Keyaki Garden PavilionImage credit: Pan Pacific Singapore

Couples searching for unique wedding venues in Singapore will also love the Garden Pavilion at Keyaki. Complete with shoji screens in an intimate space, it’s one of the best places to feel like you’re holding a destination wedding in Japan, without even setting foot out of our Little Red Dot.

Chinese Garden at Jurong Lake Gardens

Pro tip: the Chinese Garden and Japanese Garden at Jurong Lake Gardens are also picture-perfect spots for pre-wedding pics that don’t look like they were taken in Singapore.

8. People’s Park Complex

Looks like 70s Hong Kong

People's Park Complex

Amongst our city’s skyscrapers sits People’s Park Complex – a blast from the past in the heart of Chinatown. This landmark, built in 1973, has 25 storeys of residential apartments stacked above a 6-storey shopping centre, and boasts a long history as a buzzing market packed with makeshift stalls back in the day.

These days, it’s best known for street-style OOTDs, thanks to its brutalist design. You might even feel like you’ve been transported to a Hong Kong housing estate.

People's Park Complex carpark

Just note that if you’re planning to head down for a photoshoot, you’ll need to get permission from the building management first, since people still live there.

People’s Park Complex

9. Raffles Marina Lighthouse

Pretty sunset views & open to the public

Raffles Marina Lighthouse

Europe probably first comes to mind when you think of lighthouses. But what many don’t realise is that a few places in Singapore have lighthouses too, like the Raffles Marina Lighthouse. What makes it unique is that it’s the only lighthouse not owned and operated by the Maritime Port Authority of Singapore.

Raffles Marina Lighthouse breakwater

Even better, access to the breakwater and lighthouse area is open to the public for free. Go in the evenings to catch the golden hour and for the best pics.

This is another popular venue for pre-wedding and nautical-themed shoots, but note that you’ll need to get permission from Raffles Marina beforehand. Professional shoots are chargeable on a case-by-case basis.

Raffles Marina Lighthouse

10. Tuas Lamp Post 1

Looks like Amsterdam if you angle your camera well

Tuas Lamp Post 1
Image credit: Marcin S via Google Maps

It’s actually common to see random lamp posts plastered with stickers in Amsterdam, as a form of free advertising, for activists to spread their views, or for artists to showcase their work. And in Singapore, we have our very own version – the Tuas Lamp Post 1.

Tuas Lamp Post 1 in SingaporeImage credit: Huck Monteabaro via Google Maps

People aren’t exactly heading there to advertise, because who even travels all the way to Tuas? But this unassuming lamp post is special because it’s the only one in our fine country where you’re allowed to slap on your favourite stickers – legally.

It’s a well-known spot among cyclists in particular, so if you ever cycle past it, angle your camera properly, and you might just trick your followers into thinking you’re in Amsterdam.

Tuas Lamp Post 1

11. Sunflower Garden at Changi Airport Terminal 2

Lowkey Tuscany vibes

Sunflower Garden at Changi AirportImage credit: Changi Airport via Facebook

The Sunflower Garden at Changi Airport is hidden away in Terminal 2’s transit area, and is a chill spot for travellers who love both plane watching and pretty blooms. It’s not huge, but it has rows of bright yellow sunflowers set against a backdrop of planes taking off and landing. This is the place to be if you need to stretch your legs before or after a flight.

Sunflower Garden Changi Airport Terminal 2

And if you squint a little and ignore the glass panels and aircraft in the background, you might just fool yourself into thinking you’re in Tuscany during sunflower season.

– Bonus –

You might have seen our roundup of places in Singapore that look like Studio Ghibli sets – now, we’ve got even more locations that look like fictional worlds.

12. Clementi Forest

Step into Jurassic World

Clementi Forest

Westies would have heard of Clementi Forest, but fun fact: some say it looks straight out of Jurassic World. This hiking spot is surrounded by tall trees, and with mist rolling through the greenery in the early mornings, it almost feels like a dinosaur might pop out from behind the bushes.

Clementi Forest

13. The Mill

Gothic building that looks like it belongs in an anti-hero movie

The Mill

This all-black, gothic-looking building could easily be the villain’s lair in an anti-hero movie. But nope, The Mill is actually an office building in Bukit Merah, blending post-industrial American architecture with a fortified Gothic tower that gives it that brooding edge.

The Mill interior

Though you won’t be able to just stroll into the offices, you can head to the terrace on the 6th floor to enjoy killer views.

Alchemist at The Mill

There’s also Alchemist, a cafe located on the 2nd floor, that serves up great coffee and pastries.

The Mill

14. Parkview Square

Gotham City building in the heart of Bugis

Parkview Square

You’ve probably walked past this iconic building in Bugis, looked up and wondered, “Wow, what do people do here?” Parkview Square has been dubbed the “Gotham City building” by many Singaporeans because of its dramatic exterior.

Parkview Square interior

The building features a luxurious-looking brown lacquer finish for its facade and interior, complete with Art Deco motifs, regal statues, and a grand lobby that makes you feel like you’ve stepped onto the set of The Great Gatsby.

ATLAS bar gin tower

Inside, you’ll find offices and event spaces, but what it’s really famous for is the ATLAS bar, home to that 3-storey gin tower everyone talks about.

Parkview Square

Visit these places in Singapore for photo ops

No more excuses about “nothing to do” or “nowhere to go” – these places in Singapore that don’t look like our Little Red Dot will keep you busy for sure.

It’s not just the rooms that are themed – even the frames at Standard Photo Studio are a whole vibe. Each concept comes with its own photostrip design to ensure your pics match the mood.

The hawker centre frame has local grub like satay and ice kacang printed on it, while the ball pit theme brings on the fun with bright pops of colour.

Places in SG that look like Studio Ghibli

Studio Ghibli movies are like the comfort food of animated films. Known for their hand-drawn art style and wholesome storylines, Ghibli films have claimed a soft spot in the hearts of many millennials and Gen Zs worldwide.

We’ve all dreamt about entering the world of Ghibli, from the enchanted town of Spirited Away to the enigmatic forests of Princess Mononoke. Turns out, our pipe dreams may not be too fantastical after all. We found a few spots in Singapore that look delightfully similar to Studio Ghibli classics.

1. Howl’s Moving Castle – Grasslands at Jurong Lake Gardens

Studio Ghibli Howl's Moving Castle

Handsome wizards and flying castles aside, the grassy mounds in Jurong Lake Gardens are a close second to the utopic hills in Howl’s Moving Castle

Studio Ghibli - Jurong Lake Gardens

Located in the Grasslands, these micro hills are perfect for picnics and photography. There are also plenty of interesting nature-themed installations nearby to add to the appeal of this heartland play space.

How to get there: Bus 98, 98A, 154 or from Lakeside MRT Station

Admission: Free
Address: 11 Japanese Garden Road, Singapore 619229

2. Spirited Away – Lorong Halus Red Bridge

Studio Ghibli Spirited Away No Face

While the Lorong Halus Red Bridge isn’t a traditional curved one like in Spirited Away, people say there have been quite a few ghost sightings here.

Studio Ghibli - Lorong Halus Red Bridge

Superstitious folk claim that these spirits arise from significant water bodies, just like the Punggol Serangoon Reservoir below.

The altitude also grants a view of the natural sunset and local wildlife, such as the Chestnut Munia bird and the Smooth-coated otter. Just be sure to make a beeline for Kadaloor LRT, a short 5-minute cycle away, if you catch a glimpse of No-Face.

How to get there: Bus 3, 39, 50 or from Kadaloor LRT Station

Admission: Free
Address: Lorong Halus Wetland

3. Spirited Away – Buddha Tooth Relic Temple

Studio Ghibli Spirited Away

Meet the darling of Chinatown – the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, which houses artefacts of the Buddha from pieces of his bone to his tongue. Its Tang-dynasty architecture dressed in a striking crimson resembles the grand bathhouse in Spirited Away

Studio Ghibli - Buddha Tooth Relic Temple

Visitors often tour the heart of the temple, where Buddha’s tooth is contained in a giant gold stupa that weighs a total of 3,500 kg.

How to get there: Bus 80, 145 or from Chinatown MRT Station

Admission: Free
Address: 288 South Bridge Road, Singapore 058840

4. Princess Mononoke – Little Guilin

Studio Ghibli Princess Mononoke

Princess Mononoke’s enchanted lake is probably one of Ghibli’s most beautifully animated scenes, with its pristine water and verdant greenery.

Studio Ghibli - Little Guilin

Similarly, Little Guilin is a basin of still rainwater, embraced by the surrounding trees and granite cliffs. While it looks like a forgotten piece of nature, it is only a 5-minute walk from Bukit Gombak MRT.

How to get there: Bukit Gombak MRT Station

Admission: Free
Address: Along Bukit Batok East Avenue 5, Singapore 650242

5. Totoro – Tembusu tree in Botanic Gardens

Studio Ghibli Totoro

We all wished we had a cuddly friend like Totoro, who would give us snacks and let us ride in his catbus. The iconic low-lying tree branch, where Totoro and his gang sat over a small fishing pond, bears a striking resemblance to one of our most popular heritage trees.

Studio Ghibli - Botanic Gardens

It’s the Tembusu tree in Botanic Gardens, probably the most famous of its cohort, courtesy of its lone low-lying branch that has since been fenced up and given more support.

Studio Ghibli - Tembusu Tree

If you’re in the area, you can still admire it from a distance or enjoy a picnic under its shade.

How to get there: Bus 106, 174, 75, 77, 855 or from Botanic Gardens MRT Station

Admission: Free
Address: 1 Cluny Road, Singapore 259569

6. Kiki’s Delivery Service – Upper Seletar Reservoir Park

Studio Ghibli KikiImage credit: Wallpaper Access

While the Upper Seletar Reservoir Park is often shadowed by popular sister sites like Macritchie Reservoir or Yishun Dam, it is equally charming. With soft, grassy banks and a panoramic view of the Central Water Catchment, the park shares an uncanny resemblance to the riverside banks in Kiki’s Delivery Service

Studio Ghibli - Upper Seletar Reservoir

The park is also quiet and cool, perfect for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city – like Kiki who got burnt out from being the town’s “Grab Delivery driver”.

How to get there: Bus 138 or from Springleaf MRT Station

Admission: Free
Address: Along Mandai Road Track 7, off Mandai Road

7. The Wind Rises – Keyaki’s garden at Pan Pacific Singapore

Between the tragic love story and turbulence of prewar in The Wind Rises, the film also highlights the beauty of Japanese homes and courtyards in the late 1920s.

Studio Ghibli - Keyaki Pan Pacific Hotel

Hidden in Pan Pacific Singapore, Keyaki Garden Pavillion is reminiscent of a traditional Japanese courtyard with koi ponds, manicured hedges, and zen gardens. Entry to the garden is free, and you can even splurge on a meal at Keyaki’s if you’re feeling bougie

How to get there: Bus 10, 106, 961M, 97 or from Promenade MRT Station

Admission: Free
Address: 7 Raffles Boulevard, Singapore 039595

8. The Tale of Princess Kaguya – Japanese Cemetery Park

Die-hard Studio Ghibli fans would know that The Tale of Princess Kaguya is another classic Ghibli piece, despite its deviation from the usual Hayao Miyazaki art style.

Studio Ghibli - Japanese Cemetery

At Japanese Cemetery Park, you can look out for pink bougainvillaea sprawled across several wire arches – and get a shot posing like Princess Kaguya.

How to get there: Bus 103, 147, 156, 43, 43M, 70M, 73 or from Hougang MRT Station

Admission: Free
Address: 825B Chuan Hoe Avenue, Singapore 549854

Honorary Mention: Your Name – Breakwater at Marina East

Although Your Name isn’t a Studio Ghibli film, it makes the list for being one of the top anime film favourites.

To recreate the experience of meeting your time-travelling bae along a crater rim, the breakwater at Marina East has a dramatic curved stretch – complete with unblocked cityline views in the background.

Recreate Studio Ghibli scenes at these places

Haengbok Studio at Haji Lane

With new photo studios popping up every other month, it’s pretty clear that the photobooth trend is here to stay. After all, if a couple of bucks can get us well-taken pics for the memz plus instant happiness, there’s really nothing not to like about it.

But with so many studios to choose from these days, it’s almost impossible to decide which one to visit. Well, if you’re a fan of all things coquette-core, we’ve found just the right spot for your next photo-taking sesh. Check out Haengbok Studio at Haji Lane, an ultra cutesy photo studio with 7 themed booths, including a retro neoprint one that’s got a bunch of y2k filters to choose from.

Themed rooms with translucent photo strips

Entering Haengbok Studio is like being transported to a pink paradise. The walls are lined with free-to-use props, which include everything from funky furry hats and sunglasses, to cute headbands and tiaras. FYI “haengbok” means “happiness” in Korean, and we were most definitely happy with the selection of props on our previous visit here.

Once you’ve dolled yourself up, there are 7 themed rooms to snap pics at. Rooms 1 to 6 have different backdrops, so you can decide if you want to pose against solid-coloured walls, or with more elaborate garden or pastel ribbon-themed backgrounds.

These rooms also have an assortment of film types, the coolest being translucent photo strips, which you can even opt to print out in sticker form. A single session starts at $10 for 2 strips or 1 large sheet.

Neoprint booth with over 1000 frames

The 7th room, however, is definitely what most folks line up for. It’s got a neoprint booth that works exactly like how old-school purikura machines do. For instance, you’ll have to manually key in the codes of the photo frames you want, which you have to pick from multiple catalogues placed outside the room.

BTW, there are thousands of frames to choose from here – you’ll find anything from cool cybercore filters, to cartoon character-themed frames, to hilariously “tacky” designs. There’s even a whole section of faux magazine cover filters, so you’ll be able to tell everyone you’ve been on the cover of Vogue.

Each print costs $5 per piece, and fits a maximum of 9 photos per sheet. There’s a 180-second timer for photo-taking, so be sure to prep your best poses beforehand. Once time’s up, you can decorate your pics with adorable stickers and doodles for some extra pizzazz.

In classic purikura style, the photos are then printed on a sticker sheet, which you’ll be able to cut up with a paper cutter provided at the decor station outside.

Visit a cute knick-knack shop on Level 1

Before you leave, don’t forget to check out Haengbok Studio’s sister shop, Haengbok Supplies, located on Level 1 of the same shophouse.

The equally kawaii store is loaded with the quirkiest knick-knacks, from adorable stationery to collectible figurines and household items.

Snap adorable pics at Haengbok Studio

If you miss the OG neoprint experience, Haengbok Studio will definitely give you major early 2000s nostalgia. We recommend dropping by on weekdays though, as queues for the neoprint booth can extend up to an hour during peak periods on weekends.

Solace Studios – Transport-themed photobooths for $10

Travelling and posing at self-photo studios in Singapore are favourite pastimes amongst Gen Zs and millennials – but what if you could combine both? If you’re looking for a quick getaway with your boo, but your bank account says otherwise, get your couple travel pics at Solace Studios’ transport-themed photobooth.

Plane lavatory-themed photo booths at Haji Lane

Aeroplane photobooth - plane bathroom booth

At the Haji Lane outlet, the Korean photo studio has set up 3 self-serve booths designed to look like a plane lavatory. Each booth comes with a mirror, fake sink, and even the sliding locks they have on flights. There are also cute aeroplane windows and signages to zhuzh up the bathroom layout, and add to the illusion.

It’s not just the booths that are aeroplane-themed; the entryway and props are too. You can find sunglasses or plushy headbands, or opt for passport covers from a variety of countries. There’s even a metal suitcase for you to roll and sit on for pics.

Each booth fits up to 4 pax, so you can get squad photos for your group chat if that Bali trip didn’t take off.

Aeroplane photobooth - boarding pass photostrip

There’s no need to extend your arm out to use the 0.5x setting on your iPhone camera. The photos are taken with a high-angle camera, which ensures that you get the most out of the booth in your photo, though you can always take your pictures at normal angles with your phone.

There are plenty of adorable frames to choose from, such as regular 4-picture frames with aeroplane stickers or a mock boarding pass with faux flight details on the side. You get 2 multi-picture frame strips or 1 single-frame strip for $10 and after that, it’s $2 for every additional strip.

Subway-themed photobooths at Orchardgateway

If the plane pics aren’t enough to fool your friends, being on a New York City subway probably would. Solace Studios at Orchard Gateway closely mimics the iconic underground transport system. You’ll spot similar details like subway maps, gantries, and steel sliding doors.

Psst, you don’t have to worry about unknowingly breaking any MRT rules here. Of course, don’t go all feral and break every law in the book, duh.

solace studios - subway station
You can mimic all your K-Drama or Hollywood poses here without looking too delulu.

You’re spoilt for choice here with the number of photobooths here. Pick from Grey Classic Booth, High Angle Train Cabin, Train Door Cabin, Fisheye Lens Train Cabin, and White Cabin Booth.

The classic booth is the cheapest at $10 for 2 photo strips or 1 multi-frame printout. For those coming in groups, we recommend the cabins, which can accommodate more people within a frame. It’s slightly pricier at $12 for the same number of prints. You can also request for more prints at $2 each, and if you’re ready to hard launch bae on IG, digital files and gifs are free to download.

Other photobooths at Solace Studios’ main branch

Aeroplane photobooth - Vanity and pastel rooms

If you haven’t had enough, head to Solace Studios’ main branch a few doors down from the aeroplane-themed outlet. This outlet has 2 levels of 9 different rooms – which means plenty of photo ops for the whole gang.

Aeroplane photobooth - fish-eye lens
Image adapted from: @solacestudios.sg

Level 1 has standard photo booths with pastel backgrounds and a normal angled camera, along with 3 vanity stations with hair dryers, mirrors, and props to get yourself dolled up. On level 2, you’ll find their experimental rooms – 2 with low-angle cameras and another 2 with fish-eye lenses. You can’t get any more Y2K than this, with digicam props and music-video-esque shots.

Take to the skies & the underground at Solace Studios

The next time you run out of date ideas, give Solace Studios’ photobooths a go. You no longer have to worry about holding up the line for the lavatory because you’re getting bathroom selfies. And from $10/strip, it’s a pretty affordable hangout idea for your group chat or partner.

Instagrammable things to do in Singapore

Our sunny island is often touted as a clean and green city, but that’s not all there is to the Lion City. It’s not hard to find photo-worthy attractions or scenic nature trails that are a dream for both pro and aspiring photographers. Yes, even normal folks just looking to refresh our social media feeds. As a love letter to our beautiful city, we’ve compiled a list of Instagrammable things to do in Singapore.

– Nature parks & hiking trails –

1. Singapore Botanic Gardens – 75-hectare gardens with waterfalls

2. Tropical Montane Orchidetum – Glasshouse with exotic plants

Although it’s part of the Singapore Botanic Gardens’ National Orchid Garden, the Tropical Montane Orchidetum deserves a mention of its own. You can probably tell why: this glass house is a treasure trove of photo-worthy corners, as it’s filled with exotic flowers and plants. Here’s what makes it even better: you’ll get to escape the heat in a cool 16°C-24°C.

4. Sang Nila Utama Garden – Bali vibes

instagrammable things to do singapore - sang nila utama garden

Ancient Bali vibes in Singapore? Say no more. Hidden in Fort Canning Park is Sang Nila Utama Garden, a representation of what the park might’ve looked like in the 1200s. The most prominent feature here is the Javanese gateway that resembles the famous Gates of Heaven in Bali. Other than that, spot stone statues and vases that make you feel like you’re in Bali itself.

Opening hours: 24 hours, Daily

5. Yunnan Garden – Lesser-known garden in NTU

instagrammable things to do singapore - yunnan garden

Yunnan Garden is every bit deserving of its name. It’s pavilions, stone paths, ponds, and manicured gardens galore over at this secret spot at Nanyang Technological University (NTU). This heritage space easily resembles a setting that fits in with a period drama, also thanks to the fact that the Chinese Heritage Centre is located within its vicinity.

Address: 12 Nanyang Drive, Singapore 637721
Opening hours: 24 hours, Daily

6. Ulu Sembawang Park Connector – Sunrise spot with grassy fields

Once in awhile, we all need a detox from city life. And the good news is that you don’t need to leave the country to do so. You can get lots of fresh air and reconnect with nature when you cycle or stroll along the Ulu Sembawang Park Connector. The trail’s an easy 1.3km long and leads you to a sunrise viewing point that’s worth waking up early for.

7. Changi Bay Point – “Jeju island” in Singapore

Changi Bay Point is rather underrated, given that its location is rather out of the way. But, trust us when we say the journey here will be worth it – especially if you’re all about that sun, sea, and sand life. Head over early in the morning to catch the sunrise, then stroll or cycle along a wide bridge. Continue forth to find benches that look out to the quiet waters and a viewing pavilion.

8. Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve – Nature trails & wildlife spotting

instagrammable things to do singapore - sungei buloh wetland reserve

Ask any Singaporean where to spot local wildlife such as exotic birds, mangrove critters, and even small crocodiles, and they’d likely quote Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve

This Instaworthy nature trail isn’t just great for clocking your daily cardio; it’s also the perfect setting for aesthetic pics amidst nature. We’re talking “onion” pavilions that overlook JB, boardwalks, a viewing tower, a netted canopy walk, and even an adventure trail for kids that looks like an art installation.

9. Lakeside Garden at Jurong Lake Gardens – Lalang grasslands

instagrammable things to do singapore - lakeside garden at jurong lake gardens

Jurong Lake Gardens isn’t just your average National Garden with walking trails, play areas, and a skatepark. This eco-friendly park is a haven for you to snap enviable photos. We’re talking about grasslands that make you look like you’re in a faraway land, a lone tree made out of metal wires, and boardwalks that overlook the lake.

Jurong Lake Gardens

10. Kranji Marshes – Marshland great for birdwatching

We’re so used to seeing tall buildings and HDB blocks day in, day out, so anything that makes us feel closer to nature is a plus point.

instagrammable things to do singapore - kranji marshes

That said, you can also snap plenty of photos that look like you’re nowhere in the city right at Kranji Marshes. It’s got an easy walking trail that’s surrounded by tall grass, lots of wild greenery, and if you’re lucky, exotic birds flying around. Be sure to visit the Raptor Tower for a vantage point over the marshes.

11. Upper Seletar Reservoir Park – Lone Casuarina tree

instagrammable things to do singapore - upper seletar reservoir park

Upper Seletar Reservoir Park is an understated Instagrammable place in Singapore. Tucked away near Mandai, the park gives you an eyeful of greenery and the tranquility of the reservoir. Head over here to strike some poses near the lone Casuarina tree, and get a bird’s-eye view of the reservoir from the Rocket Tower.

Address: Mandai Rd Track 7, Singapore

12. Lorong Halus Bridge – Aesthetic red structure

instagrammable things to do singapore - lor halus wetland

You can’t say you’ve truly visited Punggol without having visited Lorong Halus Wetland, an area along the Pasir Ris-Punggol park connector. It’s most recognisable for the Lorong Halus Red Bridge, but it’s also chock full of nature sights that’ll make it seem like you’re nowhere near Singapore. Think tall lalang and ponds with water reeds to serve up a rugged backdrop for your pics.
