When life’s got you beat down, nothing sounds better than a nice, relaxing spa trip. But if you don’t have hours to spare, don’t worry – a little self-care doesn’t have to take up your whole afternoon. For a quick breather between errands or after a long day, swing by E-Charge for a refreshing shiatsu massage.

What is a shiatsu massage?

For those unfamiliar, shiatsu is a form of traditional Japanese massage, which literally means “finger pressure”. Applying pressure to certain acupoints on your body helps ease tension while improving blood and lymphatic circulation.

Straits Podiatry

We’ve all been there: hurting ankles, ingrown toenails, sore heels. Cue the TikTok stretching videos, a new pair of shoes, insoles, acrobat-level twists to dig out that affronting nail, and “your digestion is no good” quips from your foot reflex masseuse.

What if we told you that these problems keep coming back because they simply haven’t been fixed? That’s where Straits Podiatry and their team of trained podiatrists enter the picture.

What is podiatry?

straits podiatry - consultation

Think of a podiatrist as your dentist, except for your feet, ankles, and lower limb. In the same way that your GP cannot treat a cavity, he is not specially trained to look at why your heel hurts with every step you take.

From ingrown toenails to sport injuries, gait problems, and children’s walking difficulties, podiatrists are trained and equipped to assess, diagnose, and treat all sorts of conditions related to everything below your hips.

In short, they’re defo a better bet to solving your problems than your massage aunty and pedicurist.

What can podiatry do for me?

What an initial consultation looks like

straits podiatry - appointment

There’s no need to be anxious going into your podiatric appointment. To start, there’s the whole: why are you here to see me today? routine that your podiatrist, like any doctor, will begin the consultation with. To get a holistic view of your condition, circumstances, and lifestyle, you can expect it to follow with more leading questions, asked in a casual conversation.

And it all varies, depending on your presenting condition, though you won’t be able to escape queries about how long you’ve felt the pain for, its severity, and the fixes that you’ve tried.

straits podiatry - physical examination

Then comes the physical examination, which is when some fancy equipment might come out to play. Depending on your complaint, you might get an ultrasound, which will help the podiatrist determine more precisely what might be ailing you.

Fun fact: A whopping 20% of the patients that Straits Podiatry sees each month suffer from heel pain, and almost a quarter of these patients were previously misdiagnosed as having plantar fasciitis. Besides plantar fasciitis, I was told, there are at least 5 other conditions that might cause something so deceptively simple as “heel pain”.

physical test

There’s an entire battery of tests that can be run just to pinpoint what exactly is causing the issues you face, including evaluating your muscle strength and range of motion.

straits podiatry - 3d camera scan

Your foot is also scanned, with a super high-spec 3D camera that tells you its exact dimensions.

gait test

A gait test is yet another assessment that you might go through, which allows your podiatrist to see how your lower limbs and feet move as you walk.

straits podiatry - insole scan

Unlike at most shoe shops, where your custom insole is made based on an imprint of your foot, Straits Podiatry takes the extra step to ensure there is, in fact, no weight on it when the scan is made.

This is, in fact, the key to a better-fitting orthosis, because the shape of your foot is the most precisely measured when you’ve not got your full body weight on it.

Not a one-size-fits-all solution

insoles

Every patient, every case, and every ailment that comes through a podiatrist’s doors is unique – as such, the solutions aren’t one size fits all either.

custom orthosis
A custom orthosis is a prescribed medical mould, unique to one’s foot structure.

Taking that even further are the custom orthoses which can be personalised to suit the shoes that you wear, be it sneakers, running shoes, or ballet flats. That’s a game changer, IMO, because far be it that anyone can say feet-friendly shoes are not aesthetic.

The line, however, is drawn at high-heeled shoes – they defeat the point of wearing an orthosis, so the workaround would be to wear shoes with the custom orthoses as much as possible, and change into your heels only as necessary.

State-of-the-art medical equipment

emtt machine

Besides tailoring your treatment plan to your lifestyle, it can also be tweaked according to your budget. For instance, Straits Podiatry is one of only 2 podiatry clinics in Singapore which has both an Extracorporeal Magnetotransduction Therapy (EMTT) machine, as well as a duo of shockwave therapy machines.

rswt

In particular, they’ve got both the common Radial Shockwave (RSWT) machine, plus a Focused Shockwave (FSWT) machine – this delivers high-intensity, concentrated shockwaves for deep, targeted therapy.

NGL, for these shockwave therapy machines to work, it will hurt. If you’re being treated with shockwave therapy and it doesn’t hurt, then you either aren’t injured to begin with, or the shockwave is being set at too low a frequency to be effective.

Why do I need to see a specialist?

If you still aren’t convinced, here’s why you ought to consider seeing a podiatrist.

The custom shoe shop in-soles, as personalised as they are, are not medical tools. The TikTok hacks to deal with plantar fasciitis don’t take your daily routines and your physiology into consideration. Your pedicurist is just that – a pedicurist. A gardener can prune your tree, but they cannot fix a sick tree.

A podiatrist is all the difference between generic advice and evidence-based, specialist-led assessments that actually help you get better.

We often ignore our feet problems, but here’s a news flash to tell you that it affects your body more than you think. For example, chronic heel pain changes the way in which you walk, which in turn hurts your knees, hips, and even your back. Ergo, it’s going to cause you greater problems down the line.

Family-oriented clinic & solutions that fit into daily life

Open since 2022, with 3 clinics

Straits Podiatry is one of a few dedicated podiatry clinics in Singapore, with their latest location newly opened in Paya Lebar Square.

straits podiatry - entrance

They started operations in 2022, under Healthway Medical Group’s Allied Health Division, guided by their mission to help people move with comfort, confidence, and freedom.

Conducive & comfortable clinics

straits podiatry - clinic

Each location is also designed to make all patients feel comfortable and at ease, with cushy waiting areas and a clean, minimalistic aesthetic. Each consultation room is also spacious and well-lit.

straits podiatry - child-friendly room

They’ve even got specially appointed, child-friendly rooms for the youngest of their patients, with full-height glass windows which make it easier for the podiatrist to observe the child at ease.

Recovering without invasive procedures or long downtime

straits podiatry - reception

More than that, Straits Podiatry believes in really listening to the problems of anyone who walks through their doors. Then comes breaking the issue down into simple, clear, and thorough terms to explain what’s wrong, and the next steps towards solving it.

As far as possible, there are no invasive procedures, steroid jabs, or lengthy downtimes to dread; what they bring to the table instead are evidence-based solutions, with innovative technology, that fit right into your daily life.

Get your foot & leg ailments treated at Straits Podiatry

Don’t turn a blind eye to your toes, your feet, and your lower limbs, especially if there are any issues that are bothering you or your loved ones. Rather than let the problems grow into bigger ones, get them in check from the get-go with a podiatric assessment.

Best massage spas in Singapore

We all deserve to relax and unwind once in a while, whether it’s via a short holiday or a staycation. But if you only have a few hours to spare, a visit to the spa can be an amazing alternative. Here are the 28 best massage spas in Singapore for treatments that cater to every budget.

What’s the difference between a massage and a spa?

Massages are purely reserved for treating pained and tensed muscles, while spas are solely for relaxation and pampering, with massages being part of the services they offer. At massage salons, they usually offer various types of massage services such as Swedish, aromatherapy, Thai, Shiatsu, and foot reflexology. These massages have their own unique benefits:

What to prepare before going for a massage or a spa?

Before you go for your spa session, here are a few things you should keep in mind:

Leave your jewellery at home: While we understand that accessorising plays a major factor in elevating your mood and outfit, you will be asked to remove your jewellery prior to your session. So you might as well save yourself the trouble and avoid wearing them altogether or at most keep it minimal on that day.

Have a light meal and stay hydrated: Be sure to eat lightly because the last thing you want is feeling bloated and on the verge of seeing your lunch splattered all over the floor. And, of course, drink plenty of water so that your muscles become softer and more pliable for your masseuse to work on.

Don’t shave before your session: This mostly applies to body exfoliations and facials, as shaving can make your skin more sensitive and susceptible to irritation.

Cover open wounds: If you have any cuts or open wounds, make sure to keep them covered to prevent any infections.

Can I go to a massage or spa when I’m on my period?

It’s perfectly safe to get a massage during your menstrual cycle, so long as you maintain proper hygiene and wear a tampon or pad. Don’t forget to communicate this to your therapist so they can adjust the pressure accordingly.

Best massage spas in Singapore for a self-care day

From spas that are open 24 hours a day, to garden-themed spas with on-site yoga classes – we’re pretty sure you’ll find a spa that strikes your fancy. Plus, with so many best massage spas located in Singapore, you won’t have to travel far the next time you need a little retreat.

Japanese-style onsen spas in Singapore

It is never a bad time to treat yourself, so let these spas and their bubbling warm onsens tide you over…until you manage to snag yourself some tickets to Japan, that is. While you’re at it, why not top up a little for a massage too? As the saying goes, go big or go home, and when it comes to spoiling ourselves, we like going all out.

Who should avoid going to an onsen?

Pregnant women should avoid going to an onsen, as well as those who are on their periods, as it’s not sanitary. Additionally, those who have open wounds, chronic bronchitis, and difficulty in breathing should not go to an onsen.

What is proper onsen etiquette?

Do a quick rinse before entering the pools, and those with long hair should tie up their hair as well. Avoid splashing vigorously in the pools, and do not fully immerse your face or head under water.

House+ Bubble in Perennial Business City, Jurong East

Just take a look at your neighbourhood mall’s directory, and you’ll most likely find it populated by new openings by brands hailing from China. Xiang Xiang Hunan Cuisine restaurants are aplenty from East to West, Mixue’s infectious jingle can be heard pretty much islandwide, and around every corner lies a CHAGEE outlet poised to pounce on the BBT-loving masses.

Moreover, the Chinese influence doesn’t stop at just F&B. Come mid-March, they’re also dabbling in the wellness sector with House+ Bubble, a massive 24-hour spa and leisure complex that’s projected to span almost 100,000 sqft once completed. From private soaking rooms to a cinema, here’s what you can expect from this grandiose facility in Jurong East that can give the crazy spas in China a run for their money.

What to expect at House+ Bubble?

Set to officially open on 14th March 2026, Chinese wellness operator House+ Bubble will be opening a 24-hour spa and leisure complex in Jurong, and boy is it massive.

During its first phase of opening, guests will have a whopping 49,000 sqft of wellness-related amenities to unwind with. Mind you, an average 4-bedroom HDB flat measures around 1,000 sqft, so you can only imagine how expansive their premises will be. The second phase of opening is projected to happen towards the end of 2026, and will add another 50,000 sqft of space to the spa.

As of 3rd March 2026, House+ Bubble has already soft-launched its opening, which means you can visit the gargantuan spa right now. In fact, they’re running a soft opening promo, where for just $39, guests can enjoy unfettered access to the spa’s current amenities for 3 hours; do give them a ring to book a session.

Unfortunately, some spa-goers have had a less-than-stellar experience at House+ Bubble, with many reviews calling out the cramped space, dirty toilets, and lack of a cold bath and steam rooms. Some of the facilities are also not open 24/7 – the restaurant closes at 12.30am and massage services stop at 10.30pm.

To this regard, they have decided to temporarily close the bathing pools in both the male and female areas from 3rd March to make some “facility adjustments”. No word on when the pools will open, so if you’re thinking of trekking all the way to Jurong to try out this new spa, you might want to hold your horses.

Shared soaking pools, dry steam rooms & therapy rooms

Firstly, your House+ Bubble Bathing Pass (from $119/adult, $39/child) grants you access to the gender-specific bathing zones and shared amenities. Take a dip in their shared soaking pools, which feature a rotation of herbal and functional infusions. These minerals are purposely selected to help to relieve muscle tension, rejuvenate the skin, or to promote healthy blood circulation.

You can also step into their dry steam rooms, which help open up pores to support a natural detox by sweating out the toxins in your body. For a more thorough session, head into the therapy rooms. The salt therapy room relies on nourishing Himalayan crystal salt to set your mind at ease, while the mugwort herbal room draws from the herb to aid digestion, improve sleep, and soothe the skin.

The spa also provides add-on services (from $49) for your bathing experience, such as a body exfoliation service where you’ll get a professional scrub for a full-body exfoliation. There’s also the luxury skincare bar you can visit, which is stocked with skincare products from premium brands to lather on.

Note: the bathing zones have been temporarily closed for improvement works, with no reopening date currently set.

Massage & foot reflexology services & private rooms

Sound therapy room
There’s even a sound therapy room, complete with a hand pan drum.

No visit to the spa is complete without a good massage, and at House+ Bubble, you’ll get just that. They’ve got a whole host of spa treatments and an extensive foot reflexology menu, and prices start from $219 and $159 respectively. Of course, they’re well-versed in various forms of traditional Chinese therapies as well; think gua sha ($79), cupping therapy ($79), and ear candling ($89).

Rest & recharge spaces & other recreational amenities

Sleeping nook and beds
Sleeping nooks & beds to catch the Zs at.

Should you wish to take a short snooze, you can do so at the spa’s rest and recharge spaces. They’ve got sleeping pods reminiscent of those capsule hotels you’d find in Japan, as well as relaxation halls decked out with roomy reclining chairs to help with some mindful meditation.

Lounge area

On the other hand, corporate folks who need somewhere peaceful to catch up on deadlines while sipping on some coffee can do so at the spa’s lounge area.

Reading corner

There’s also a reading corner whose shelves are lined with books and magazines to leaf through, if you’re one for a digital detox.

House+ Bubble cinemaThe cinema.

But when it’s time to let loose, House+ Bubble is also equipped with a small cinema where you can kick back and enjoy a flick or 2. For gamers, there’s an Esports room at your disposal, with rigs that are comparable with those of established PC cafes.

House+ Bubble restaurant

When your stomach is rumbling, make a pit stop at the buffet-like restaurant to fuel up on free-flow drinks, fruits, sushi, small cakes, and even ice cream.

Best places to get a foot massage in Singapore

Whether it’s from our daily hustle or traversing Singapore’s many parks and gardens, sometimes we may find ourselves in need of TLC for our feet. You might instinctively think of heading to the nearest foot reflexology outlet for relief, especially for more affordable options.

While not as fanciful, there are massage parlours offering basic and fuss-free services that will still leave you feeling shiok. Here are affordable foot reflexology and foot massage parlours in Singapore that will be worth your time and money.

What’s the difference between foot reflexology & foot massage?

Both terms are often used interchangeably by Singapore massage shops. But strictly speaking, foot reflexology focuses on specific pressure points that are said to affect various body parts. The technique of foot reflexology believes that targeting these specific points restores health and balance to the body.

Meanwhile, foot massages focus more on relieving muscle tension and boosting blood circulation. Furthermore, foot massages use kneading, rubbing, or pressing techniques for the entire foot rather than pin-pointing certain areas.

What does it mean when a reflexology point hurts?

As foot reflexology is rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine, it is believed that when certain points hurt, there is an imbalance or a blockage in your vital energy, otherwise known as “qi”, levels.

This blocked energy is said to result in internal issues within the body. It is, however, important to note that foot reflexology is not considered to be backed up by Western medical evidence. That said, many still boast the positive outcome from reflexology to their well-being in general.

Can foot reflexology have side effects?

Most people feel relaxed after a foot reflexology session. At most, you might also feel a little lightheaded or a tad sore in the soles of your feet.  You can always request your masseuse use a lighter touch if you are sensitive to pressure.

What should I or should I not do after foot reflexology?

Some aftercare practices you should keep in mind are to stay hydrated to help your body flush out any toxins and to avoid any taxing workouts for at least a full day to give your body time to recover.

Who should not get foot reflexology?

Though foot reflexology is generally safe for everyone, there are times when you should avoid it. These include people with foot injuries, gout, unhealed or open wounds, and contagious skin conditions. Those with a history of blood clotting or circulation issues should especially be cautious, as foot reflexology helps with circulation and risks moving clots towards the brain or heart.

It is completely safe for pregnant women to get foot reflexology. However, you might want to opt for an oil-less massage, as some essential oils are not safe for pregnant women to use.

Foot massage shops in Singapore

Massages don’t have to be expensive to be good. Whether you prefer short 30-minute sessions or a full-body massage, drop by any of these foot reflexology parlours in Singapore to take a short break from your busy schedule without worrying about breaking the bank.

Scalp Purifying Therapy at TK TrichoKare

January is over, and if you’ve gotten started on your fitness and beauty resolutions for the new year, here’s one more to consider – kickstarting your journey to healthier hair and scalp. It’s an oft-overlooked part of our body, but did you know that scalp health is the key to beautiful hair?

Enter TK TrichoKare, a leading trichological centre in Singapore that was established in 2004. What truly sets TK TrichoKare apart is their holistic, science-backed approach to hair and scalp health using premium European herbal hair solutions that are validated by trichologists.

Get a taste of their award-winning Scalp Purifying Therapy experience, now at the promo price of $48 nett. We went to try it out, and here’s what you can expect during this in-depth customised treatment.

What can I expect during the Scalp Purifying Therapy?

Pre-treatment consultation & analysis

tk trichokare - scalp scanner

On your first visit, a TK TrichoKare consultant will conduct a one-to-one consultation with you about your hair and scalp concerns and problem areas. Based on the analysis, they’ll come up with a customised treatment plan, tailored to your scalp’s needs and aligned to the results you’d like to achieve through the treatment.

tk trichokare - scalp scan before
My initial scalp scan showed flaky skin and red patches of inflammation.

Part of the consultation includes a scalp scan analysis using their Tricho-Scan magnifier, which blows up scans of your scalp a whopping 200 times in real time. There’s no hiding here – every flaky piece of dry, scaly skin, weakened follicle, and malnourished root is on full HD display.

For example, my consultant felt that my scalp was clearly showing dry patches and inflammation, which may progress to hair loss. She then advised that a herbal scalp masque followed by a customised treatment essence would be the best course of treatment for my scalp.

Customised Herbal Scalp Masque

tk trichokare - applying hair masque

The next step in the treatment is a Customised European Herbal Scalp Masque, infused with tea tree and magnolia herbal extracts, which helps to eliminate excess sebum and unclog pores on the scalp for healthier hair.  This, plainly speaking, means an immediately squeaky clean and rejuvenated scalp.

FYI, this European Herbal Scalp Masque is formulated by certified trichologists, packed with essential minerals and vitamins that stimulate blood circulation, therefore accelerating scalp metabolism for improved cell growth and increasing vitality for your hair follicles.

Head massage & hair wash

It’s extra nourishing and detoxifying, and the best part is the head massage that you’ll get along with the Herbal Scalp Masque. Not only does the massage help you fully relax into your treatment, it also aids in the absorption of the masque into your scalp.

tk trichokare - hair wash

The good stuff isn’t over just yet. Your next step is a hair wash with TrichoKare’s bestselling Nourishing Hair Bath shampoo that’s made with almond oil and Wasabia Japonica Root Ferment Extract – a bio-fermented, antioxidant-rich cosmetic ingredient derived from wasabi roots, much loved for its potent anti-aging, antimicrobial, and soothing properties.

Customised Treatment Essence via NanoMist spray

tk trichokare - nano spray

If you recall the treatment essence mentioned earlier, here’s when it comes into play. To ensure the essence fully penetrates into your skin, it’s precisely delivered via TrichoKare’s NanoMist Spray, which transforms the essence into nano particles that get in real deep into the pores of your scalp.

Alongside the saw palmetto and nettle that smooth and strengthen hair, as well as calendula and tea tree which boost hydration and encourage hair growth, the NanoMist Spray leverages oxygen technology to revitalise your scalp.

Photodynamic Therapy

tk trichokare - hair bang

Let your hair specialist know what kind of a blow-out you want for your hair, and they’ll make it happen so you can walk out of TrichoKare feeling like a million bucks. Then comes the final step in your treatment, a Hair Bang treatment capitalising on Low Light Therapy that’ll maintain your scalp’s pH balance, detoxify, and promote overall hair and scalp health.

Moreover, it helps to regulate blood circulation and heal any inflammation on your scalp.

Post-Treatment Scalp Scan Analysis

tk trichokare - scalp analysis

Finally, you’re shown into the consultation room again for a Post-Treatment Scalp Analysis that’ll show you how effective the treatment has been for you through a comparison of before and after scans.

You can simply take our word for it, but the scans are proof – my scalp was clear of dry flaky skin, and the telltale redness of inflammation. More than that, I could feel how clean and hydrated my scalp was, without any tightness or greasiness, just like your face would feel after a great facial. To think that this was after only 1 session; imagine how much your scalp would thank you if you did this weekly.

Receive a free hair care kit

tk trichokare - receiving free gift

After your treatment, you will receive a free hair care kit, comprising a Nourishing Hair Bath shampoo and CompleteKare Mask conditioner worth $45.

tk trichokare - shampoo conditioner set

You may not be able to replicate the shiok-ness you got after the full treatment at TrichoKare at home, but at least your hair and scalp will thank you for the extra dose of nourishment this duo will provide.

Give your scalp a deep cleanse at TK TrichoKare

tk trichokare - storefront shot

We’re tooting no horn when we say that there are visible results in a single session; imagine what a full course could do for you and your hair. And at $48 nett instead of its usual $556, plus a free haircare kit, there’s no better deal to cop.

All you need to do is book your appointment ahead of time online or via WhatsApp, and waltz into their outlets at NEX, Ngee Ann City, Velocity @ Novena, The Clementi Mall, or Jurong Point to enjoy this deal. Regardless which of their 5 outlets you visit, you’ll defo be treated with the same, VIP-esque TLC.
