Things to do in Kulai, Johor<\/b><\/h2>\n

We\u2019re halfway through the year, which is exactly around the time that most of us start to feel the burnout from work and school set in. TLDR; we\u2019re craving a relaxing weekend getaway, but places like Bali<\/a> and Phuket<\/a> are a little too far for a short trip, and we\u2019ve already explored JB<\/a> to death.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re facing the same dilemma as us, here\u2019s an alternative getaway idea for you. Instead of visiting JB for the thousandth time, try out this 2D1N Kulai itinerary<\/b> instead. This lesser-known town is just ~20 minutes away from JB by train, and it\u2019s got a bunch of relaxing activities to help you unwind.<\/p>\n

– Day 1 –<\/b><\/h3>\n
\n

6.45am – Leave Singapore<\/b><\/h3>\n
\n

6.45am may seem a little too early to set off for Johor, but it\u2019s necessary if you plan on getting to Kulai by train, and want to max out your time there.<\/p>\n

For context, taking the KTM train to Kulai from JB<\/a> is one of the easiest and most affordable ways to get there, as tickets start from just RM8 (~S$2.58)\/pax<\/b>, and travel time ranges from 18 to 39 minutes<\/b>, depending on which train you take. Platinum trains are quicker, taking roughly 18 to 22 minutes, while Express trains take 39 minutes.<\/p>\n

As reflected on the KITS site, up to 9 trains<\/b> service Kulai daily, though this number varies depending on the date you\u2019re booking tickets for. The earliest departure from JB Sentral is at 7.35am, while the latest you can head down is 9.05pm.<\/p>\n

At the time we visited, we booked tickets for an 8.30am train. As such, we decided to depart Singapore at 6.45am in order to reach the JB checkpoint by 7.30am. We got to JB by public bus<\/b><\/a>, which cost us just S$1.85<\/b>, but if you\u2019re looking for a quicker way to cross the border, there\u2019s always the option of taking the 5-minute KTM train ride <\/b>from Woodlands Checkpoint to JB Sentral for RM15.75 (~S$5.08)<\/b>.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

*At the time of writing, train schedules have changed and there is no longer an 8.30am train to Kulai. The closest alternative would be the 8.40am train. We have tweaked the itinerary timings to accommodate the latest schedule.<\/i><\/p>\n

8.25am<\/b> – Board the KTM train to Kulai<\/b><\/h3>\n
\n

Once you\u2019ve arrived at JB Sentral, you\u2019ll find 2 gates for the KTM train \u2013 Gate A, for trains returning to Singapore, and Gate B, for ETS and intercity trains.<\/p>\n

Boarding begins roughly 15 minutes before the train departs, so if you\u2019re early like we were, feel free to plonk your bags down at the seating area by the gates.<\/p>\n

P.S. \u2013 We recommend booking train tickets in advance via the KITS ticketing website<\/a>, but if you need to make any last-minute purchases, you can still try for seats via the ticketing counters and self-service kiosks near the boarding gates.<\/p>\n

10am – Drop off luggage at Durian Guesthouse<\/b><\/h3>\n
\n

If you take the 8.40am train down to Kulai, you\u2019ll arrive by roughly 9am. We\u2019re happy to report that the ride was smooth and quiet enough for us to clock in some shut-eye time, so much so that we were ready to properly kickstart our day by the time we reached.<\/p>\n

Nonetheless, our first order of business was to rid ourselves of our luggage. We headed to our Airbnb \u2013 Durian Guesthouse<\/b><\/a> \u2013 to put our bags down. The kampung-style accom usually accommodates check-ins from 3pm onwards, but the owners were kind enough to let us drop off our barang barang<\/i> first, so that we could begin our day untethered.<\/p>\n

BTW<\/i>, we 100% recommend this Airbnb to you if you\u2019re a nature lover, or someone looking for a zen escape from city life. The cosy homestay serves major kampung vibes, with rustic old-school furniture indoors, and a mini farm outdoors with homegrown crops like fruits and vegetables.<\/p>\n

\"Triple<\/p>\n

We opted to stay in a Triple Room <\/b>for 3 (from S<\/b>$111\/<\/b>night)<\/b>, which consisted of a queen-sized bed for 2, and a single bunk bed. Depending on your travel group size, you can choose between 2 other room options as well \u2013 a Double Room<\/b> for 2 from S$<\/b>80<\/b>\/night<\/b>, or a Family Room<\/b> for 6 from S<\/b>$153<\/b>\/night<\/b>.<\/p>\n\n
